Hoegate Street

Our client Chapter 1 presented us with wider objectives as part of this interesting large-scale refurbishment project. As well as aiming for optimum value within the programme period, they also wanted to prioritise their spending with local partners and create work experience opportunities for people within the community. Obviously, DNA was more than happy to oblige.

Refurbishment involved substantial structural alterations, including a new mezzanine floor to maximise the number of residential units within the building’s footprint. Meanwhile, a Co Op supermarket occupies the ground floor, so careful planning and liaison with their team was crucial throughout the project. Our careful scheduling ensured no interruption to the supermarket’s trade during the project.

Today the building provides sheltered temporary accommodation for 30 families.

Our Construction Management contract approach allowed the flexibility to achieve Chapter 1’s local spend and work experience objectives. We created 8,659 hours of work experience for disadvantaged local people, and spent 99% of the project’s budget on partners within 60 miles of the site.
