Mildmay House

This significant refurbishment project came with a requirement from our client, Chapter 1, to prioritise project spend within the local community, and to create work experience opportunities among their wider network. DNA welcomed the opportunity to add value in such positive ways.

The refurbishment itself included complete renovation of all aspects of the building, including significant structural alterations to create as much usable space as possible behind the building’s historic façade. Today, the building functions as a hostel and operations centre for Chapter 1 in Liverpool, offering accommodation for 41 homeless men, plus wider facilities including a training kitchen, a music studio, and a range of multifunctional rooms for education, training and support.

During the project, DNA supported more than 20 individuals towards taking their CSCS test. Completed successfully, this gives candidates a basic qualification in Health and Safety awareness, and signifies one of the crucial first steps of a construction career. In addition, we provided over 4,000 hours of work experience and created two full-time paid positions on site for our client. In terms of project spend, we ensured local companies benefitted as much as possible, spending over 95% of the project value to date with companies less than 50 miles from the project site. This translates to an injection of over £1.5million pounds into the local economy.
